"Can't you read the signs!"
I began touching paths, "reunited and it felt so good," but the person told me that she was embarking upon a new stage of her life, the first year of college and she did not want to commit. But she said some day but not now.
I was dejected, but yet optimistic taking her words literally. That was the end of the summer, and I too was entering a new year, a new dormitory, and embarking upon the next phase of my education.
As time went by during the course of the semester, studies aside, my feelings intensified. As is often the case with me and especially with this relationship, it was one-sided in that the feelings were "my imagination running away with me."
Although it was one-sided, for the most part, there were frequent gestures and signs pointing in my favor. "Signs say, long haired, freaky people need not apply."
Now, years later it is absolute after a 180° turn in my life. It is so clear and the signs are so obvious. I chalk it up to my inexperience and also naïve wishful thinking.
One for the road, "these are salad days."

"Run for the hills"
This song was recently a header for a talk show I listen to on the radio. It is a sports show and this song as played by this sports show today has nothing to do with politics, but could easily apply to today's politics.
Whenever Mitt Romney speaks or makes any presentation, I cannot see him as president of this country. I am not impressed with the fact that he is a multimillionaire, with wealth I can only dream of.
I am sure he made money the "old-fashioned way." But in its truest sense, he did not earn it from scratch, but like many multimillionaires, or billionaires, he inherited it. It is nice to hit the proverbial "home run" in life. But when you start at third base, it ruins the accomplishment.
I think that to be a corporate lion is commendable, but does not translate into being a good president. But most if not all of the past presidents have been wealthy. And some of them have been phenomenal presidents. I think the best example is John F. Kennedy. The Kennedys are incredibly wealthy. That notwithstanding, John F. Kennedy had a heart for poor people and made it his mission to assist the less fortunate.
Now, as most people know, John F. Kennedy was no saint. He was far from being loyal to his wife. His extramarital affairs/1 nighters with women on a worldwide scale have been well documented. But these kind of shenanigans do not take away from the fact that he took care of many of the underprivileged in society.
I have always been proud of being an American, I never want to be ashamed of our president on the worldwide stage. I look to past presidents, some who are not the most glamorous, or shine with great public speaking, but very few, if any, that are shameful. Let us please not start with this election. And that is all I am gonna say about that.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
There are many ways to waste the mind. One is to fall victim to propaganda and commercialization. This includes excessive exposure to television and radio, while abstaining from reading.
This also includes free thinking and imagination. Similar to being a communist regime where people are controlled by one the common theme, to serve their country and/or leader.
Sometimes people feel locked into a common movement for political party, even in a socialist regime. It can be argued that this is happening in this country which is supposedly purely capitalistic.
Even worse, one can waste their mind by simply not using it. Not thinking, being controlled 100% by forces outside their control. People who are not trying to tune people out by ignoring them, people who are just tuned out themselves.
One for the road, "Comatose yet walking still."

The closer
It never bothers me when people are arrogant, especially when they can back it up. This is most impressive because their arrogance sets the bar very high, and that notwithstanding , they succeed.
These people often make reference to themselves in the third person. For example, I applaud Rickey Henderson, the baseball player who used to play for the Oakland Athletics, and the New York Yankees. He often told the first baseman that he would be stealing second base, "Ricky is going to steal second base, and there is nothing you can do to stop Ricky."
Another example is when a surgeon has "the God complex." When a skilled surgeon thinks of himself as the savior, saving a person who is dying and facing fatal conditions. Now this level of arrogance is certainly an increase from the former level.
The surgeon has to have this sort of confidence to be able to succeed under immense pressure. Most would want that surgeon to be operating on them irrespective of his confidence level.
Similarly, for that matter, most would want the aforementioned baseball player. Some athletes exhibit confidence without overtly showing it.
For example, Lebron James does not brag about his skills. It is obvious that he is a superhuman basketball player, undoubtedly he knows it, and all he has to do is do it, which he does. Kobe Bryant is another example of someone who just does it without talking about it. He is known as one of the most foremost closers in the entire NBA .
But actually, we are not on the basketball court, and we cannot hear what they are saying to each other. Many former professional basketball players said that Larry Bird talked the most smack, and the public never knew.
Confidence can be an asset, but one must hone it.
One for the road, "The killer awoke before dawn, he had his boots on."

The Seeker
As I often do, when I have a spare moment, I will let my consciousness stream freely and use Google to lead me in the direction I want to go. I am always fascinated by how this program can cover almost every train of thought, inquiry, and subject. I try to push it to the limit and see how it responds. More often than not, it takes me in the direction I want to go.
I am also intrigued as to what others are seeking to find.
My nephew is learning how to play chess. He came to me to ask me how to play. Of course I tried to help, but I had not played for nearly 20 years. What I did not tell him, was that I was not a very good player, and forgot the basics of the game. I quickly consulted Google and looked it up to refresh my memory.
I quickly revert to backgammon, more my speed. Much less intellect required. Challenging, but on a lower level.

Weary, feeling small...
I went on Google to try to find the famous Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central Park in New York City. I have always appreciated their music together.
To go to their concert today would be very costly, and they are well past their prime. Out of those two, I would more likely want to hear Art Garfunkel, but his voice can never attain the levels he once did.
I want to keep my pristine image of the band in its heyday. I always enjoyed the range of Garfunkel singing songs, particularly "Bridge over Troubled Water."
I guess I would enjoy the other songs that are timeless. It is just not worth it for me. The major obstacle is the price of the ticket, especially in light of the loss of quality with their aging.

Midnight express
I was perusing through a few movies that I have seen in the past. I was looking for a movie that would really bring out feelings and lasting impressions. I decided to revisit, "Midnight Express."
I would highly suggest that if you have not seen this movie, to see it.
I will not give away any of the details, but I believe the movie came out in 1978. All I can say it is a bad idea to try to smuggle hashish out of Istanbul, Turkey.
It was Oliver Stone's directorial debut. It was a small budget film, that was nominated for many Academy Awards, most notably best picture. I also know that the Turks welcomed him with open arms, but after filming commenced prior to the finish, he was kicked out of Turkey, and finished the movie in Malta.
Now, I do not believe in disrespecting or denigrating the laws of another country. But I do believe that the punishment should be commensurate with the crime. In this case, it was not. William Hayes, rest his soul, found out the hard way, but nonetheless…

Trapped
There are times when people are trapped, cornered into the position where there is little place to move. It gets to a point where there is no movement, not even lateral movement.
Often people feel they are trapped at their position or particular job. There is no room for them to continue to reach higher levels. But what I am talking about is the more basic inability to move. At least the aforementioned can actually go to work and get out into a working environment.
What I am referring to are those who cannot, literally move or integrate with the community. They are confined to their space where they live. After all while, they no longer feel like doing anything.
What is especially disappointing is when that circumstance happens randomly. One becomes a victim of their environment, sickness, or mental health. In those situations, they are unable to physically and/or mentally move on.
On its most basic level, one feels like they are in a straitjacket with nowhere to go. I never pass judgment on those who are in that position. Often I see it in the eyes of the homeless, or prisoners, or sick people at the hospital. Passing greetings or a smile gets them through the moment. Sometimes it lasts longer.
My heart bleeds for these people. But in reality, that position, could happen to anyone in a heartbeat.
Once the road, "Love lost, such a cost, brings me things that might get lost going home to you."

Forever and one day.
Sometimes life goes by so fast. People say one should enjoy each day. You only live once.
I have some Hindu friends who would respond, "you only live once, that you know of." They claim that you will be back in some form. Some people say that they have lived many lives. People like Shirley MacLaine, who claims she has lived many lives.
I would like to think I was Alexander the great, in a past life. Perhaps I am here in this life to experience a different life, one where I am not invincible.
Sometimes each day goes by so slow. It seems like one day is like one week or even a month. I try to accomplish as much as I can and take solace in any small achievement. Only some days, seem like they are forever and one day.

Memories of track and field
I remember observing track and field in high school. I now have a better appreciation for this activity.
One of my closest friends participated and actively pursued this sport in high school. Although he found his true calling in martial arts, later on in his life, he practiced and executed his technique in many of the activities e.g., the shot put, the javelin, and the discus throws. Although quite frankly he lacked the pure size of the other athletes from other schools, he dutifully executed his footwork and technique. As I stated, and unbeknownst to all of us, these techniques were extremely useful in his martial arts, later on in his life.
I could never match the power of various moves and strength he has. I learned quickly that I had to take two blows in order to deliver one. I was always hoping and relying on that one strike. I made many friends, who taught me many lessons on many different systems and techniques. Over the years, I suffered a broken nose, a broken wrist, and broke many of my toes. That notwithstanding, I enjoyed it very much, absolutely no regrets.
I now watch the Olympics and marvel over the athletics. These athletic competitions represent to me sport in the purest sense dating back hundreds to thousands of years. I can only watch and appreciate the performances.

"Trading these chains, for wings."
"Trading these chains for wings."
I have much respect for those who can compete riding their bicycles. In particular, those who compete in the Olympics, and/or triathletes, whether in the Olympics or other competitions.
These people are not only competing with each other, but the terrain. This becomes especially rigorous when the weather becomes inclement. This includes windstorms, rainstorms, and other terrible conditions.
One also must work within their respective groups and/or countries. The training and dedication must take years of commitment.
The transitions of the triathletes is incredible and takes much practice and organization. Since most do not race in teams, it is truly individual. After accelerating, they must feel like they are flying.
The point of this whole blog is that this sort of training is just another form of obsessive compulsive behavior.

"What a drag it is getting old?"
I cannot say that I come from a family where the life expectancy is great. Both sides of my parents had poor life expectancies. Some of the reasons actually most of the reasons can be attributed to genetics, poor lifestyle, and most of all quite frankly, being poor financially. This last reason affects diet, dietary choices, and living conditions. And of course genetics is a wildcard.
I have reached the conclusion that it is not about how many years that is lived, but how many healthy years one lives. I see how there are people who live most of their lives healthy then they suffer a stroke or heart attack or another disease manifests and their lives change. Even if one survives a heart attack, the resuscitation does its damage.
This consideration has forced me to reconsider my own living will and other documents with regards to my death. I am considering how much difficulty my family will have taking care of me. I do not desire to be such a burden. Most people, I believe, would reach the same conclusion.
Everyone should prepare for this worst-case scenario. Facing issues on mortality is difficult, but must be confronted before it is too late.
I know I have my own "bucket list," the list of things that one desires to do before death. My list is more humble than most. Some folks want to visit some faraway locations. Each person has their own list of things that want to do before they die.
I just desire to be at peace and have a bit of comfort, pain-free. I have a great deal of respect for those that I classify as "intellectual atheists." Those people who have explored and are very interested in what happens after one passes. This group has basically come to the conclusion that once someone passes, that is it. The proverbial plug is pulled out of the socket and you are done. I guess we will all see.
I saw a woman on CNN recently. She is quite attractive but her name escapes me. She is a part of a show with 3 other young people. She said that she tries to read every reliable religious book that she can get her hands on and still she "just doesn't see it". I don't know if those were her exact words, but you get the drift. Basically, she acknowledges that she is an atheist and has run out of option as to convincing her that there is some greater being or power.
As for me, I just do not know, so I will reserve judgement.

You can look at the menu…
"You can look at the menu, but you just can't eat."
There are situations that one must do what they prefer not to do. They partake in the activity, but they have mixed emotions on whether they should go forward. Often times, this involves sacrifice, which is the inevitable byproduct of this action. Sacrifice, at what cost? This cost has to be outweighed by the benefit, at least theoretically, this must be true to the person making the sacrifice.
This is a concern in many situations, personally, this is a major concern with regards to for example diet. Obviously, one has to eat in in order to survive. I am not one to judge anyone as to what, and how much they consume. I know of a few people, who I have a great deal of respect for, who have lost a great deal of weight, then have gone back and gained the weight back. Personally, there are other issues that I must deal with, i.e., dietary allergies.
The point I am making is that there is danger in any excessive behavior. I have always had a problem with limitations, and stopping obsessive behavior. It is not "dangerous," obsessive behavior towards others, at least not intentionally, but only towards myself. I think the sister feeling of limitations is discretion. I think for example, in the legal field, the best judges know how to properly exercise discretion and recognize/identify limitations and vice versa.
I often say these type of decisions, come with experience. This is also, as I often say, "beyond my pay grade."

Aspirations in the clouds....
"Aspirations in the clouds, but your hopes go down the drain."
I believe this applies to all of us in that we sometimes have high hopes and big dreams which often end in disappointment. Some people just wallow in that disappointment for days, months, even years.
I liken it to boxers who get punched in the face with combinations early on in a fight and cannot just brush it off. What happens is that as the fight progresses, they are still thinking about the combination that got them. This causes them to be unable to go back to their original plan and win the fight.
I think the best fighters are able to brush off the punches or absorb them and stick to their fight plan. Similarly, people (ie: me) often times get stuck in their disappointment and cannot rebound to go on with life.
I believe this is true because human beings always put more weight on events that happened recently, even though there is not always any connection between the past and the future. If you flipped a coin 5 times and it came up heads each time, it does not make the odds of heads any greater than 50% on the sixth flip. Yet that is how we think, after seeing many flips of heads in a row. We become very caught up in what just happened to us recently (especially if it is negative) and lose sight of the bigger picture.

"The Look"
The background of this blog, I had just arrived in Wyoming, specifically the Thunderhead Ranch. I was about to embark upon the best learning experience of my life, under the tutelage of a phenomenal teacher, attorney, and person., amongst talented staff and students. It was the first afternoon of Trial Lawyers College, led by the incomparable Gerry Spence.
All of the students, such as myself, got off of our planes, placed our luggage and bags in our room, then gathered in a room, known as the "big barn." It was a large area, capable of holding hundreds of people, for the class gathered, there were about 64 students, and many teachers/attorneys. We were subdivided into groups of 13, students and teachers together, and Mr. Spence, gave each group 1 hour, to elect a leader/Capt. This election was based upon discussion of each person in the group, and the specific subject was weakness. Each person , was expected leave to discuss their particular weakness, and the person with the most compelling weakness would win.
My group of 13 had many compelling stories, one of which I thought was particularly compelling. It was basically an Indian person who married a Puerto Rican woman. Marrying this woman outside the Indian religion, separated him from generations of his family. I felt that it took great courage to do this.
When my turn came up, I was the last of my group. I called my weakness, "The Look." I proceeded to explain the concept. "Do you know when you hear the voluptuous voice of the DJ on the radio. You picture a tall blond haired attractive woman or a tall redhead attractive woman, or whatever attracts you. When you see this person in person. She is but ugly. You quickly give her the look.
I
You cannot help it, you are thinking how can such a beautiful voice be connected to such a beast. You do not mean to be, classless but you are blindsided."
Similarly, I stated, "I once walked around a corner, I saw an attractive woman who I exchanged glances with, and it was obvious there was a mutual attraction. Then the next second, I had to take out my cane, in order to take my next step. I then got the look from the person. Looking back upon it, I gather she could not help it. I am sure she was thinking, why does such a young, athletic looking young man need a cane? I guess my weakness is that look."
A couple things I will add to this. In this contest, I had received more votes than any other person. I however, convinced everyone to vote for the Indian gentleman.
The Trial Lawyers College experience I would rank as one of my best accomplishments and performances right up there with achieving my Black Belt. To note , as to performances, I of course, am keeping it clean for the purposes of this blog.
One. For the road, "the real thing don't do the trick, you better make up something quick."

"Slip out of trouble, step over here, and set me free."
Me and my closest friend used to sing this song, and substitute first-generation, with second-generation, as the song states. One of the many meanings of this song, is that there is no "easy way to be free."
I think I have given many clues to the name of the song. I never spent any time in prison, thankfully, but even as a youngster, there were many people looking out for me, and dare I say, I would like to think, there are many people who look out for my best interests today.
I never lived a life, says that I would need "protection." I never live the life of Henry Hill, God rest his soul, of legendary status as depicted by the movie," Goodfellas." One of my favorite gangster movies, and certainly in my opinion the best modern gangster movie, and best, Martin Scorsese film.
I never had exposure to Mafia people, nor would I have the guts to rat on them, and then break witness protection, and integrate into society by, among other things, calling New York City DJs, regularly calling Howard Stern.
I think I will continue to try to stay out of trouble, and continue to watch gangster movies. I have seen many, I think most of them, but I would be happy to take suggestions from anyone.
Once the road, "I woke up, then a Soho, driveway, and the policeman knew my name." Very easy.

"Black cars, look better in the shade."
I actually went out yesterday in the hot weather. Though it was not sweltering, it was hot enough for me. I am never inclined to go outside, and enjoy the sunshine, etc. I know there are people who often tell me that there are health reasons to go underneath the sun, for a short time, e.g. vitamin D.
You can take vitamin D supplements, which I take. I see how scary people look after years of sunbathing, like enjoying the beach, or going to taming salons.
I appreciate those with nice tans, and have recently appreciated, and enjoyed looking at attractive females with small tattoos. I appreciate those with large tattoos, male or female but I would never get one.
Though I probably have the pain threshold for getting a tattoo, I revert to the original karate kid , expression, as stated by Daniel's instructor, "the best way to avoid the punch, is not be there."
So I avoid the pain by avoiding the sun, and a tattoo. That is just my opinion, I could be wrong, but as Don Henley says, "I could be wrong, but I am not."
One for the road, "From the coast of gold, across the seven seas…" I will give you a hint, it is a heavy metal song, from the 80s, that my regular selection. But I appreciate the guitarist.

"Simple twist of fate."
"Simple twist of fate."
I sometimes think what if I had a serious girlfriend, long-term girlfriend, or was married, with children, the dream of most, and the place where I expected to be.
In a way, I am fortunate that I do not have children, as it would be difficult for me to provide for the family,
Now with this simple twist of fate, I must look for alternatives endeavors, for all parts of my life. Woe, is me, but whatever. My good friend stopped by out of the blue, a man I have not seen for about five years, maybe closer to seven or eight years, he cannot believe what is happening to my life. He owns a butcher shop, which he inherited from his father. He has three children, and is happily married. I am so happy for him.
He continued to express how bad he felt. I told him I am the poster boy, "for shxx happens." I firmly believe that many things in life, are a matter of timing, or luck, or lack thereof, and I am lack thereof.
One for the road, "I heard a constant busy signal, when I called you on the phone. I had a strong uneasy feeling, you were not sitting there alone."

"Move over Rover, and let Jimi take over."
"Move over Rover, and let Jimi take over."
That to me, is Jimi Hendrix' signature line.
I remember during my college years, hearing that song played at parties, etc and it always had a profound effect on me. I just picture him with his afro wailing on his guitar and delivering that line.
Many people do not know that Jimi was left handed, but played a right handed guitar. He just changed the strings. I feel a kinship with him because we kind of do the same thing. ie: make do with what we have!
One for the road:
"With a purple umbrella and a fifty cent hat"
I always thought that they were saying "With a purple umbrella and a fifth in hand."

Fear not!
Outside of the normal fears we all have such as snakes, heights, or public speaking, I think that the worse ones that really debilitate us and hold us back are the ones we invent in our heads because it's more secure to just stay status quo. Life is precious and short and we need to move forward at all costs. Along those lines, someone recently forwarded this to me from the web which I found inspiring. I hope you like it as well, please comment!
I'm taking a short break from the rock quotes to put in one from an American master.
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

"fight club"
I was never a member of a "fight club," but I used to be in what we called the "eclectic club."
We were about a dozen or so, martial art students, all from different styles and different levels.
The leader of the club, was a tremendous martial artist, he was an aikido instructor, and also, kung fu practitioner.
No one in the class could compete against this gentleman, but he was a great teacher, and could be rough. He introduced to me leg kicking, which I had no answer to, I was a basic tae kwon do student, and I had never seen this.
I used to hobble all day, from bruises on the sides of my thighs, as a result of the leg kicking.
It was far from the movie, "The Fight Club." I think the best Edward Norton movie, though he has some good ones.
I would not call him the best actor of my time, the billing that I would give Sean Penn. I also enjoy Tom Hanks. But I think, Sean Penn has a better range, but that is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
One for the road, "I wish I was in Tijuana, eating barbecued iguana."

"… Larger voices calling."
A tremendous song, boasting phenomenal harmony.
One of the few songs they always played, at high-end, record stores, and music shops that wanted to sell the products. I used to hear this song, as well as Steely Dan, music that could be played loud, and cover up shoddy equipment.

"Your face, is a Maserati…"
[You have to pretend], "your face is a Maserati…"
Ever since, I broke my nose, I have always approached people, namely females, with the assumption that I was not the best looking guy, in reality, I was never such a person, all of my entire life, but I would approach with nothing to lose, just trying to keep my confidence as high as possible.
Do not get me wrong? I am not the biggest uncle Ted fan? Not even close, I do not like his philosophy in life, nor his political views, but I absolutely acknowledge that he has some great guitar riffs, and a few songs that I enjoy listening to, and have since middle school.

Memorial Day– commemoration of sorts
Each person has events planned for the Memorial Day weekend. These may include parades, barbecues, and/or parties. On the most basic level, Americans, should honor the fallen soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for this country.
I myself have a commemoration of sorts, each year, I watch one of my favorite movies of all time, "The Deer Hunter." I have probably seen this movie, about a dozen times. Each time, I have learned something new. I have seen documentaries, interviews, and this movie with commentary from the actors and filmmakers. In short, I consider myself an aficionado, of sorts, about this movie, but in the typical obsessive/compulsive manner I live, I am open to learn more.
I once asked a friend of mine, and a true movie fan, whose knowledge of movies easily trumps mine, whether he had seen the movie in the theaters? He indicated that he had, but has not seen it since. When I asked him, why he has not seen it since? After acknowledging that it was a solid movie, he stated, "why would I want to go through posttraumatic stress again?"
I remember seeing a tribute to Robert DeNiro, where they showed a clip of his famous films, and conducted an interview with him, after each movie. He has so many movies that are fantastic and he commented on each one. When Deer Hunter was discussed, it moved him to tears. He did not say much other than that. I know the movie won an Academy award for: best picture, best director, best supporting actor, but it was a travesty that he did not win for best actor.
Various tidbits from this movie:
1) Christopher Walken – was terrified shooting scenes in the streets in Vietnam.
*I think it was his best role to date, coincidentally, it was his first major role, as far as I am concerned, he should have retired after this film. I think every film he has made, and his "weirdness," is a derivation from this film.
2) Robert De Niro wanted to use more live bullets in the chamber, in the last, "Russian Roulette" scene.
3) Barbara Streisand starred in the film "Coming Home," which was a pretty good movie, but she said she had never heard of the Deer Hunter.

"… Coming down from the whipping post…"
I have spent the entire day, going through my usual routine of exercise, etc., and I have been running into difficulty, both physically and mentally. I have been having difficulty starting and am wrestling, with a few things. While this is going on, I hear the voice of Greg Allman singing the aforementioned song, and I feel like belting out, "oh Lord, I feel like I'm dying!"
I noticed a response to one of my blogs. The blog was from a couple months ago, or so, and it brought back some issues, not the most pleasant issues, but nonetheless issues. There were some good times with regards to these memories. I was very pleased that this person responded to my blog and seems to be checking it. I welcome the response, and I am just hoping I get another response. I did not notice this response to my blog, when it was originally posted.
With regards to this song, I love it, but I cannot get into the 18 min. version, with seemingly endless guitar riffs, I prefer the short studio version of songs. But then again, I could barely play my recorder in elementary school, so though I have an appreciation for music, I cannot even play the most basic one. I now regret not playing an instrument, but I guess what is the point, now I could not manipulate any keys, or strings, or anything on an instrument. I can still appreciate nice music, but long riffs are not my "cup of tea."

"You can run, but you can't hide."
My derivative of that quotation is "I cannot run, therefore I cannot hide."
Another expression that is often used is that "if you cannot take the heat, get out of the kitchen."
My answer to this is, "I cannot get out of the kitchen, because the kitchen is too big."
It is approaching that time of the year where I am extremely uncomfortable. The temperature is going to start rising, and though some people marvel with this hot weather, it absolutely makes me especially uncomfortable.
In addition, my air-conditioner is broken, and I must wait for it to be repaired. My idea of Spartan conditions is when I have little air-conditioning, and the temperature rises. As you may have gathered, I am not much of an outdoor person, and I must train myself to get through these conditions.
Once the road, "it is a losing proposition, but one you can't refuse…"

"Cheese grate, his face against the asphalt."
I first heard this expression from a temperamental 18-year-old Italian kid, who lived in my dormitory freshmen year, his room was next to mine. When I first heard this expression, I laughed, as did my immediate classmates who who lived near the corner and the end of the dormitory floor. I am sure that this expression grew old to many, due to his loudness and with the inevitable interruptions, but I laughed each time he exploded. In fairness, those who protested were engineering students who studied all the time, so I can give them a pass. Although one of them was a product of the 60s, he did not make a big deal of the protests, he quietly mentioned it to a few people, it is not as if he carried signs protesting.
To envision literally that expression can be extremely graphic and not funny. However to if taken figuratively, it can be amusing, especially in a small group of friends in which most may be familiar with that expression, and will take it, in an amusing manner. Almost every time I have said it is figuratively, and now it is absolutely figuratively since physically it is impossible to perform for me.
I had one of those days, yesterday when my handicap vehicle/Van would not start. I was in the middle of the grocery store parking lot with my driver, since I no longer drive, there will be another posting, but I segue, she would have to call AAA to service my van. Of course the new battery was drained. While I was I sitting in the car with my mother, bless her heart, who drove me, we went to the grocery store to buy our lunch among other things, I was listening to AM radio. That was enough to drain my already low , super battery. According to a gentleman who knows his stuff, with regards to cars, computers, etc. they even though low power surge like a AM radio, could make the other high draining items, turn on and drain power causing a complete battery drain, and that is all I have to say about that.
I just chalk it up with other instances in my life which falls under/slips into the –UCF – "the Universal Conspiracy Factor." I guess this is my twilight zone of sorts. It is a nebulous part of my life that just cannot be explained, some are small issues, some of the major issues, I guess I think of a musical quote, "… I can't believe this is happening to me." Though I must admit the words are appropriate, but his context and the name of this does not fit. Open however to just by my lyrical readers.
I am sure each and every one of you folks have these type of days, and these sort of issues, most that are small, but I am sure some that are major, I just hope that short of death as a resolution, I hope they all can be resolved.
Sometimes I am tempted to call my doctor, but he has passed away, Jack Kevorkian.

"Come down off your throne, and leave your body alone…"
A song that means a great deal to me, though I do not drink alcohol, or smoke marijuana, and quite frankly I have no problems doing what the end of this song quote states.
I just love the lyrics, the composers, and I guess I do have blind faith, that was a massive hint, pun intended.
I have been abstaining from my blog for the last two days, or at least one day, because I have not had much to say, and I'm not wasting my trusted blog followers time and effort.
What really impresses me, is the ability of those readers to be able to decipher my quotes, it keeps me sharp.

"Listening to you, I get opinions…"
"Listening to you, I get opinions…"
I hear the voice of Roger Daltry, ringing in the air. I just had a friend of mine, he is a brother to me, tell me that I need to be more open with my feelings, and let things go.
I respect his opinion, more than most, probably the most and realize that he is correct, but there is "no easy way to be free."
I have a tough time letting things go, much to my detriment, and the past often blurs my future thinking. I am often reminded of another quote, "don't let the past, remind us of what we are not now."
There are three quotes so far in this entry. This will be a challenge.
I would say the past as well as my current physical pain, really blurs my thinking. This is exacerbated by the fact that I have much time on my hands.

"Get a life (er)…"
The Boston Globe had a comment that those people who constantly listen to sports radio, all day, and call the station arguing about seemingly trivial sports matters need to "get a life."
There are many people who keep the sports radio playing, while they do and partake in other matters similar to listening to music. I think there are many things that people can do, that are much worse for themselves, and are harmful to society. Though these people can be annoying, they are harmless.
I just say leave people be, and stop criticizing people on trivial things. Many of these people have nothing to do, are not trying to bother anyone, and are trying to live the day.

"Subscribe to that point of view…"
I was conversing with a lady, via the Internet, with whom I have a great deal of respect for, more than she could ever know, she is like an aunt to me, although I have never told her. She possesses uncanny instincts, and is correct on many of her assumptions. Again more than she would know.
She has risen to a fairly prominent position, with much responsibility, but comes from humble beginnings. Unlike many people, she knows her background, intelligence, and limitations. She also knows that there is only so much that she can do.
She told me recently that she was raised in a certain religion, and it really does not matter which religion, but as she has grown older, she has focused in a different direction. Not so much abandoning her religion or faith, but looking and focusing on nature. Nature just takes its course, humans are animals, and must adopt to nature.
Nature can be a wonderful thing, with beautiful mountains, scenery, and life. It can also be and do terrible things, for example, natural catastrophes, causing major death and havoc anywhere in the world. Over the course of human existence, the stronger may be able to survive. Conversely the weak are eliminated.
Brothers and sisters will come from the same cloth. Quite simply, one may be genetically inferior, and thus be unable to survive because they do not possess the strength to go forward.
I know of a person who is afflicted with a sickness that is extremely rare. In order to contract this sickness, there must be a gene from both the father and mother, and their genes must interact in a certain way to produce this sickness in the child. The parents could have multiple children, and all do not necessarily become sick, but one may be genetically "inferior."
This inferiority, may make him susceptible to other sicknesses, and the cycle goes on. He faces an inevitable altered lifestyle. It is not his fault, but he tries to deal with it. People try to comfort him, but there is a limited amount of things that can be done.
Though I am a man of faith, I am also looking at other factors in my life. I think in the least, that lady makes me think about my life, I will never forget her, and I thank her from the bottom of my heart. I hope she knows that I read her correspondence very carefully, and appreciate her wisdom. I hope I have garnered her respect, on the rare occasion we communicate.
I think I do. "Subscribe to that point of view…" But I am always tweaking my thoughts and theories.

"Plays by intuition…
"Plays by intuition…"
I have a tremendous amount of respect for people with intuitive skills, who have the knack of being in the right place, at the right time. Some people think that this is a matter of luck, or lack thereof, which I fall under, but I segue. But as I grow older, I realize that some people can place themselves into these positions, almost by feel, and they capitalize.
Some people have the knack to place themselves in a position to meet a love interest, and they do it so proficiently that if they break up with this love interest, they can go to another spot, and do this all over again. The same people may be able to juggle a few of these interests in different spots. They have what I call, the "love technique."
Some people have the knack to place themselves in a position to make successful business transactions. They also can spend little time and effort to curry multiple transactions quickly. As we all know, even in the worst recession, there are people who flourish, and we all know and it is obvious that it is not luck.
Now, what is the point? The point is that most will never work themselves into a position to be able to develop those intuitive skills. I used to think that practice might help develop these skills, but now I no longer believe that.
I guess I have to just sit back and respect those who have these skills, like that "deaf, dumb and blind kid, who sure plays a mean pinball…"

"I'm bad, I am nationwide…"
That is an easy call for those following the quotes.
I am not the biggest fan, but a check the stats, I have had hits all across the country, except for Hawaii. Magnum PI is too old, and I'm not important enough for my president to respond to my blog, but someday, it could be wishful thinking but I would love it.
I have also had responses from Panama and Japan, but they have not shown up on the statistics. As I have been stating this last week, I am honored that so many people are interested in what I have to say. I never expected so many people, viewers, and I am hoping for more. Internationally, I would love Armenia, Europe or anywhere. I guess I should solicit more, but I am good with others referring.
Any suggestions are welcome. Like I said, if people are connected, and are willing to give my blog to others, will of course keep it clean, and then of course remember my name is Jimmy, and by now I know you know, I will take everything you give me.

Golfing – a spectator sport for me
I have friends, good friends, who I used to play sports with, who are now golf pros, and teach golf
at courses around the world, but maybe not around the world, but at least in Florida and/or the Caribbean.
I always wanted to play golf, but I wanted to take lessons before I played. That is not happening, because as most of you know I am in a wheelchair.
Now, it would be impossible for me to get into a bunker, and most importantly, get out of the bunker. Besides the point, I despise the hot temperature. Maybe it is for the best.
I played tennis, and I barely had enough coordination to be fairly proficient. I never had the temperament, not to mention the skills to be a good golfer. I had plenty of friends who were excellent golfers. Now, I'm just one of the few, who enjoy watching it as opposed to playing it.
There is a song, that sums it up, "I am not a player, I just… A lot." Not really, not even close.

10 min. conversation…
I used to hear coming from my father, that a 10 min. conversation, was 9 min. too long.
I miss my conversations with my father.
When my clients would yell at me, particularly when I was visiting them, in lockup, I would tell them that when you yell, I am right at home, "my father used to yell at me, point blank, spit cascading in my face, windtunnel tested dew, and that was when I was five years old. So I am not intimidated by the loudness, in fact I am right at home."
For a 5 foot nine, 130 pound man, he could bring on the intimidation. Outside of that, he never ever physically punished me, well maybe twice in my life. I probably deserved it, I think I might have brought mud onto a new carpet, and another time probably been a wise guy.
But I did get cursed out in at least four different languages. So I learned various curse words, which of course I learned, and use when necessary.
There was little tolerance for misbehavior. He was a champion backgammon player, and we have three or four nice backgammon boards, but if I was caught counting, not memorizing the backgammon board, I would get a slap.

"Blister in the Sun…"
The aforementioned song is one that I will always equate with those parties, I used to go to in Bridgeport. It was my first exposure to the punk experience, and first exposure to the "artistic community." We went down there about twice a year, and my group of friends as well as myself, really enjoyed it.
I also remember the song by Steely Dan, Kid Charlemagne, and my professor from San Francisco, said that it was accurate from San Francisco, they " would go to LA on a dare, and go it alone." I was never accustomed to driving that far, nor being that adventurous.
There are times that I regretted not enjoying my life, and being more of a free spirit. If I could do it all over again, I would have taken time off after my undergraduate studies, and I would not have gone directly to law school. Many of my advisors in undergraduate studies, suggested I do this and take at least one year off, until law school. Live and learn I guess.

"Sky pilot…"
"Sky pilot…"
My first memories of this song was when I went skiing for the first and only time, with my good friend and his family, in this skiing resort, in Vermont. It was abundantly clear to me that skiing was not my sport, not even close, I could not even learn how to "snowplow." For lack of a better word, to break my skis and my body. I basically had to twist both my ankles to halt the skis.
I had an excellent time with my friends, family, or what I also consider one of my foster families, extended family of sorts. My family is nothing like that family who are casual, fun loving, and great people, who I miss very much.
My family, though much smaller, and now very much smaller, are loving but far from being the casual type. The first time my friend came to the house, he asked me why everybody was yelling. I told him it was an ethnic thing, and we were especially loud. My friend, and all my friends seem to get used to it, no harm intended. We were "close talkers," much before it was identified by Jerry Seinfeld.
I heard the aforementioned song for the first time in my friends fathers brown van. It seemed appropriate given where we were, and the altitude. Needless to say, I never skied again, and now given my physical condition, it would be nearly impossible, but I can always keep that as a pleasant memory.

"Here comes the Sun,…
It will be a tough week for many of the people, who I have been close to. By the end of the week, the sun will be back, summer is looming, and the heat will rise…
As time goes on, this summer will grow long for me, and I will be again subject to the outdoor conditions, not my favorite, but at least I do not have to cut the grass, or like this past year, worry about a hurricane. I am reminded that I am a creature subject to all conditions, but in reality, I cannot independently deal with these conditions.
It is good to have friends, but it becomes difficult when one is lost, all one can do is pray that they are in a better place, pain-free, rest their souls.

Walk crooked, talk straight
Walk crooked, talk straight.
When I was walking with a cane, at times I had difficulty maintaining my balance, as I would visibly have difficulty walking, to the point where I would stumble to a chair, and be absolutely relieved to be seated. I tried to use this line to reassure my clients that I would fight for them, which I did, and I carried this over to trial (when I lost my first trial, an attempted sexual assault among other charges, though I tried extremely hard), and then later in a short stint as a prosecutor. I never used what little power I had to push people around. I was a fair prosecutor, and the two mentors I had checked on me, and I learned a great deal from them. One I came to know as Zeus, and one as Sifu (he was my prosecutorial teacher).
I came to live by that expression, and be honest through the process. I segue with a funny story, a quick line that a prosecutor expressed, he basically told me his girlfriend at the time, had girlfriends who could fix me up with a girl. I then asked, "would they dig the stick, (the cane)?"
The prosecutor responded quickly, no less, "they would dig the stick, and they might even like the cane also. I was super impressed with the line, and the speed of the delivery. What a great experience that time was for me and the experience I learned, the people I met. I will never forget.
I tried to maximize the time to learn as much as possible, and it served to help me develop a strong base, which helped me in my future career. I guess I have always used that expression in my life.
Amazingly, I used no quotes, well I guess I could give one, "and there is a rose, with a fisted glove, where eagles fly, with the dove, and if you can't be with the one you love, then… "That was related to my last posting with quotes, and that was an easy and/or clue.

"Concentration slipped away…"
"Concentration slipped away, because my baby is so far away."
The theme of this song, basically tells me that I must move on in life, and I am trying. This is the conclusion to the blog I sent, "Ruby throated sparrow." Enough said.
My train of thought, has been affected by pain. I do not take medications for pain, other than my normal ones. I could have easily titled this, "when you're conscious hits you, knock it back with pills." My normal ones, I mean the basic drugs for the sickness, but none that would effect my intellect. When I asked my neurologist about marijuana, he told me that the amount that he would have to prescribe would knock me out for the day. I am of the rare minority that has never smoked pot, except when I went to a Grateful Dead concert, I dealt with that smoke, secondhand. I never tried it, quite frankly, because I was afraid that I would like it.
I was also concerned that I would be caught smoking pot. In which case, "I would be busted, down on Bourbon Street, set up like a bowling pin…" Except I will not go to New Orleans, it is too hot, and from what I understand, very difficult for a person in a wheelchair to get around. I would like to go to San Francisco, but that would be the "anti-Jimmy city," because of the makeup of the city.

"Ruby throated sparrow."
From one of my favorite songs of all time. I guess I should give one hint, maybe a couple, the song was one of the highlighted songs, at Woodstock, and a more specific clue, it is about Judy Collins. This should make the song obvious and the question fairly easy, especially to the Woodstock generation. I think this hint, will suffice.
It takes me back to a time where I was obsessed with a female, who I gave my heart to, who did not reciprocate, and I guess the whole basis of my relationship if you want to call that one, "just my imagination, running away with me." This quote is easy, but I still leave that to a question for the blog.
I think many people go through this, a growing process of sorts. But this relationship, I still think about, and I guess I made a mistake early on, in high school, I tried to rectify it in college, but I learned, it is difficult " to try to right, what once, was wrong." So Scott Bakula, Quantum Leap method, did not work for me in real life. I really liked that show, and thought the actor is talented, partaking in a different role, every week.

Ask and you shall receive…
I have always been told, "ask and you shall receive, seek, and you shall find, knock, and the door shall open."
As I understand it, those I learned as biblical expressions, and I have been trying to follow cue, accordingly. I consider myself what is described to me as a "go-getter." I try never to wait for things to happen to me, and go forward to try to accomplish something in my life. Obviously, the unfortunate thing is happening to my body is out of my control, and this, of course, troubles me, by definition.
This entire blog experience has proved so far to me to be wonderful, I am learning each day from others and making good use of my idle time. I never expected to be educated in such a fashion, and hope to continue to get feedback and participation from people. I am humbled by the person who stated that there is nothing like opening up my blog with a cup of coffee. Good stuff.
As I grow more comfortable with this process, I will talk about more controversial topics which are in my mind right now. I thank everybody in advance for participation. I was told by an attorney with whom I have great respect for, and has always been a mentor to me, that he loves the blog, etc. enough said…

You were pumping irons, I was pumping irony
"You were pumping irons, I was pumping irony."
Can anyone correctly guess this quote?
When I use the lift weights, get a great workout, gain mass, then later partake in martial arts, my friend would give me that expression.
I am in a position where I cannot do anything with regards to lifting weights, martial arts, running, or any vigorous work outs. In the words of another musical poet, it is just a "simple twist of fate." I leave that also has another quote open to the blog readers.
I will have an immense amount of respect for anyone that can correctly place those various quotes in this e-mail, there is at least five quotes, to the correct artist/poet of sorts?
But I segue, I am suffering from a chronic, progressive disease. Right now, quite frankly, it is kicking my ace. I am facing the toughest challenge of my life, another quote coming open to another blog – guess, "I am sorry, but it is true, you are bringing on the heartbreak,…" I have an immense amount of time, and I'm totally dependent on others to help me." I never imagined that it would come to this point, stripping me the best years of my life, but I'm trying my best, keeping on going forward and trying to make the most of my life.
I apologize for this "momentary lapse of reason," another quote open to guess, of feeling sorry for myself, etc. I normally do not do this, and it is counter to positive attitude, but last I checked I am a human being. I thank all for listening and welcome feedback, as always.
Now you folks know, why chicks don't dig me. But in reality, there are people who may do so but I suffer from a classic Seinfeld expression: "when I like them, they do not like me, and when they like me, I do not like them.
That is generally true, so I urge people not to set me up with stooges. To quote Donald Trump, "where there is a will, there is A." Do not expect many quotes from him.

Armenian genocide – April 24
Armenian genocide – April 24
I would be terribly upset if I did not mention, the Armenian genocide of April 24.
It also commemorates, the last day I ate red meat, April 24, 1992.
I also was in contact with Rita, and her attorney, the Aardvark.
Not really, but whatever…
I always encourage people to choose healthy food, I have my serving of kale, and I eat more spinach than Popeye, so please tell me why can't I walk?

Don't spit into the wind...
I am hoping that you folks could guess what song the title is from.
It makes me think of when my friend came into my martial arts class 30 years ago, give or take a few years, came into class with a black eye. She is a petite girl, blonde, very pretty. We were all taken aback by this, in the martial arts class. My instructor approached her and asked her what went on to cause this? She responded that her boyfriend punched her in the face.
This kid also worked in the gym we all belong in, and took the martial arts classes there. Anyway, I understand why she would still be dating this guy. But as I understand it, people with lower self-esteem perpetuate relationships. Moving along, my instructor gave her tips in case this happened again, and spoke with the kid. I personally gave her the tip to strike using her first two knuckles, then followed immediately in the same movement by her elbow, then thrusting with the same elbow on the way back of her swing continuously.
The next class, she came backbruises on her elbow in her fist. When approached, she said her boyfriend will not be at the gym today, as he was suffered worse as a result of their actions.
I was very proud of her courage, and I said to myself, "you don't tug on Superman's cape, or spit into the wind, you don't pull on the mask of the Lone Ranger, and you don't mess around with Jim [my].
To me unprovoked violence is not tolerated against any person, much less a female. Lets just call her Beth, seeking a personal injury attorney, as she got into an accident suffering an elbow injury. She has two children and has been married for years and I referred her to someone who is a top notch personal injury attorney and a good friend who took care, let's just call him Ant, who got her a great settlement, often gets the results against insurance companies, as I often say, "cheese grates their face against the asphalt."
End of story. More later…

Easy like Sunday morning
Do not believe the title I am not easy, but anyway.
I am embarking on a new phone system, such that I will be using the Bluetooth mechanism to answer the phones, hands-free. I guess I am." Selective "as to when I can use my hands, when I really need to, I can get by.
I am pleased to see more people are logging on to my blog. Believe me when I say to you, it will not be mundane, and hopefully will be worth your while.
I will be speaking about various topics that come to mind and I hope that this will be worth your while, and your time. As for advice as to "hotties," I have really no answer, one of my Hallmark expressions is, "chicks don't dig me" so right now you are on your own and good luck with Christian mingle.
I've noticed that one of my viewers was from Alaska, if you are reading this, please reach out and tell me how it is there. If you are Sarah Palin, please let me know what Russia looks like.

NFL draft
I have finished exercising today, and am sitting back watching the draft, it is entertaining, in lieu of nothing. I would rather have something meaningful going on, but I'm just kicking back.
The best thing about today, is that my best friend has been visiting from Philadelphia, and will be going back tomorrow, they set me up with this blog, and I am testing it out using my voice recognition.
All this process is basically new to me, and I am just grasping the use of my Dragon program. Please understand, that I have not used my keyboard with my hands, and almost 11 months. So I guess it can be considered an accomplishment in the least.
I will continue to keep trying to post updated blog entries, each revealing more about myself.
Take care

My name is Jimmy...
Hi, my name is Jimmy. My first post will describe why this blog is named the Jimmy Principle. The name comes from a bastardization of a quote from Dr. Frederick "K.C" Price. The actual quote is, "My name is Jimmy, and I'll take everything you gimme." I say 'bastardization', because Dr. Frederick said this while passing a collection plate at his church. My intent is not as lofty.
I will be posting my thoughts, musings, and random quotes here on a daily basis. I invite you all to try to comment or answer and interact on this blog.
I remain,
Your friend,
Jimmy
